Hermione was adopted alongside her sister Xena in February 2012. They had been living in a tiny guinea pig cage with a wheel that was too small and sugary food (degus are intolerate of sugar and can develop diabetes very easily if fed sugary food, even fruit). They had little to do but groom each other, so that when they arrived here their feet were bald and they had bald patches all over. This habit has stuck with Hermione, unfortunately, so she keeps on pulling out her own fur and the fur of her companion as well. Hermione lived with her sister Xena until September 2013, when we lost Xena to sudden illness. Hermione was very depressed for a while. Fortunately we had just rescued a lone, neutered male named Pippin, and we began the process of introducing them. During their first meeting they did nothing but groom each other, and this was repeated for the second and third meeting as well. They quickly established who was boss, and they are now living together as good friends.
