The Court indicates that it wants the current government policy to an end in which the destination of calves is left to the dairy farmer himself.
The standard practice in the dairy industry is to remove a calf immediately after birth in the mother. This leads to a lot of stress for both mother and calf and thereby to large welfare and health problems. The Lower House wants the government within six months comes up with a plan of action to keep the calves now for some time with their mothers. A motion by Marianne Thieme purpose was adopted today by a House More Heid consisting PvdD, SP, GroenLinks, PvdA, D66, 50PLUS, PVV, Kuzu Group / Öztürk and the member Klein.
Marianne Thieme: " Agriculture should respect natural processes, even in the case of dairy farming. Animal welfare must take precedence over marginal income benefits of the industry. "
