La Asociación Internacional de la Alpaca (AIA) es una organización privada, sin fines de lucro que fue fundada en la ciudad de Arequipa el 26 de febrero de 1984, como una idea de las principales industrias peruanas, la Cámara de Comercio de Arequipa y en ese entonces FOPEX. La AIA, fue fundada con el fin de proteger la imagen de la fibra de alpaca y sus derivados, así como promover su consumo internacional y garantizar la calidad de sus productos, siendo éste el interés de todas las instituciones y empresas que en el mundo entero tienen una participación en el comercio, procesamiento y manufactura de la fibra de alpaca. Este fue el punto de partida para la creación de la AIA, que funciona con su sede principal en la ciudad de Arequipa (Perú), capital mundial del acopio y procesamiento primario de este producto. Esta Institución cuenta además con filiales en la ciudad de Biella en Italia y en la ciudad de Nagoya en Japón. Estas dos filiales son principalmente un punto de encuentro o sirven como canal de distribución. Ambas filiales son administradas directamente por el Presidente y Vicepresidente de la Institución. The AIA Membership is open to breeders of llamas and alpacas and all manufacturers, traders and retailers using alpaca fiber in the following processes and products: Marketing alpaca, raw and washed. Woven by hand and machine. Manufacture of ladies’ garments. Manufacture of men’s clothing. Blankets. Tapestries. The Partnership can integrate all individuals and businesses, domestic and foreign related production, processing and marketing of alpaca, llama, South American camelids. Members of the Association shall be: Ordinary User: - Associate Degree Is one company applying for registration as a member and licensed user of the brand. The associate degree can be: Industrial Breeder Professional Extraordinary User: - Graduate Are the companies claiming the license to use the trademark and licensing period is 01 years. This category includes: Industrial with sales over $ 500,000 SMEs with sales less than $ 500,000 Breeders with shops (marketing) Catalog sales (marketing) Large branch stores - Bachelor Promo: Is granted to stores marketers of excellent quality and reputation to support and increase the promotion of Marca, the fiber and products of Alpaca in the country or locality where the AIA deems. The AIA grants this license without payment and may be renewed each year. - Special Degree: They accreditations and / or certifications granted by the AIA through final product labels in a given production lot. Special licenses are not entitled to use the mark on stationery and publications. Special Licenses may apply no more than three times The AIA has the following organs: The General Assembly (composed of all members of the graduate association) The Board of Directors (elected by the General Assembly) Sector Committees (elected by the Board and organized according to develop activities) Executive Administration The alpaca, with the scientific name Lama Pacos, is the most numerous of the four South American camelids. According to some researchers, the alpaca comes from the domestication of the vicuna, and lives in the high Andes of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and today for introduction in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The alpaca is an animal of fine appearance, harmonious in their walk, slender body covered with fiber which together are called fleece. Presents footpads feature that gives the condition of ecological animal to avoid damage the pasture, nor cause erosion. The alpaca as domestic species is brought up in herds, their main production is the fiber having any number of colors, from white to brown to black, also the color gray and roan.
